Have trouble getting your cat to use her “toilet?” See if trying any of these five guidelines will help.
Make sure the litter is at least 2 to 4 inches deep. Cats do not like to “go” in anything more shallow.
When you wash the litterbox in hot, soapy water once a week, do not apply any scented chemicals. The scents that you like are not what your cat likes.
Be certain that the box is at least one and a half cat lengths long and one cat length wide. (If your cat is large, you will need to find a box other than a litterbox; a standard litterbox won’t have the necessary dimensions.)
Don’t keep a liner in the litterbox. Easier for you, maybe, but cats tend not to like the texture.
Don’t keep a plastic underlay under the box that sticks out from the sides. (See number 4.)
