Q: I’m worried my cat is not drinking enough water. I never see her at the water bowl. She is on dry food. Should I try to switch her to canned food or other moist cat food that contains more water than dry?

Dear Ms. Jungblatt,
A: If your cat is healthy and doesn’t have kidney disease, another urinary disease, or bladder stones, this is probably not one to worry about. We suspect your cat is drinking enough water even though you don’t see her doing it. Otherwise, she would become seriously dehydrated and require medical attention to bring her back from the weakness, lethargy, and other untoward symptoms she would be experiencing.
Just make sure to give your cat cold, fresh water in a clean bowl at least once a day. Twice a day is better.
