Q. Why have my cat’s eyes been watery lately?

Dear Ms. Slomanson,
A. If your cat’s eyes have a watery discharge, it’s quite possible she has a respiratory illness. In many cases, the culprit is a virus. There aren’t any great drugs to kill viruses, so often the best option is to wait it out while keeping watch on your pet to make sure she doesn’t develop other symptoms. You also want to note if the discharge changes from clear to yellowish or green. That could be a sign of a problem like a bacterial infection, which may very well need medical treatment at the vet’s office.
