Q. If I’m looking for information about how to care for my pet on the Internet, it’s better to go with a website that ends in “.org” or “.edu” rather than “.com,” yes? Doesn’t “.org” signify that the organization is a non-profit and therefore not looking to make money?

A. Dear Mr. McCarthy,
The .edu designation is always a good bet because it’s limited to accredited colleges and universities. But .org is not a sure bet. There is no restriction on signing up for a domain name that ends in .org, so there is no guarantee that an “.org” is a non-profit. That is often the case, but by no means always.
