When we think of stress, we tend to think of worry and anxiety. But stress can also arise from boredom. A lack of sufficient stimulation takes its toll and can lead to such feline behavior as urinating outside the box — not to get your goat but because your cat is at loose ends.
Help your pet avoid the tension that comes with boredom by making sure to occupy her mind and body. Play with her, put some of her food in food puzzles so she can forage for it, pull up the shades so she can look out the window, and in general remember that she’s there 24 hours a day and doesn’t have much to do unless you intermittently engage with her.
